What I Teach

For potential students, and other interested people, I would like to expand a bit on my background, especially as it relates to the teaching and practice of Reiki.

I am what is referred to as an, "Independent Reiki Master/Teacher." This somewhat ambiguous term is utilized because I have had training in several different Reiki lineages and disciplines. As a teacher I offer to my students what I feel is best and most relevant to their practice of Reiki and development as students and practitioners. This, of course, evolves over time as knowledge is unlimited and I am constantly seeking to upgrade and improve my skills, knowledge, and teaching. The key to this is daily practice and contemplation, as well as networking with experienced, sincere, and skill full practitioners and teachers.

Before Reiki found me and entered my life I had been involved intensely in the practice, study, and teaching of various Asian arts such as T'ai Chi Ch'uan, Ch'i Kung, meditation, Shaolin Kung Fu, and Filipino Kali for nine years. My martial arts teacher is Lao Shr David J. Everett (Tao Ch'i Li), who is a highly skilled and experienced lineage-holding Grandmaster. The great training, energy, and essence I received (and still am receiving) from Lao Shr Everett and teachers I have met through him along the way serves as the foundation and center of my teaching of Reiki.

My first Reiki teachers were Cynthia Cinq Mars and John Dudkowski, who were aligned with the Takata lineage through the well-known Reiki pioneers Maggie Chambers and Libby Barnett.

Soon after I was led to the highly gifted practitioner and healer Susanne Grasso, daughter of the famed Governor Ella T. Grasso, the first female Governor in the U.S.A. It was with Susanne that I trained to be a Reiki Teacher. Susanne is a special person - talented artist, highly sensitive and intuitive (psychic?) healer and teacher. She has studied many energy healing and related arts for many years. She taught me Reiki utilizing William Rand's "Usui/Tibetan" and "Karuna" Reiki systems as her foundation.

Next, Reiki and intuition led me to Patricia Warren. Pat is one of the leading teachers of the rare and evolved lineage of Reiki Jin Kei Do/Buddho Enersense. Dr. Ranga J. Premaratne is the head of this system. Pat is the personification of courage and compassion, discipline and dedication. She has traveled the world over following her passion for Reiki. With Pat I have so far completed the Buddho/Enersense Level One material and plan on continuing my training with her as circumstances allow.

In the tumultuous year of 2001 I had the great fortune of meeting and training with a living legend, the renowned Grandmaster, Dr. Maung Gyi. Initially meeting him at a martial arts seminar, it immediately became evident that Dr. Gyi was in possession of vast amounts of experience and rare knowledge not only of Asian martial arts, but also Asian yogic, healing, spiritual, and medical arts. He is a truly unique and gifted individual. Dr. Gyi has visited us several times since then to teach energy healing and various yogic and martial arts. In my Reiki classes I share several simple and wonderful energy healing techniques which he has taught me which compliment and enhance the practice of Reiki. Many of these are similar to "Japanese" Reiki techniques, and come from Dr. Gyi's unique experiences, such as serving as an apprentice under the healing Master in a Northern Burmese Temple after World War II. Dr. Gyi has also worked with His Holiness The Dalai Lama and many other gifted teachers for the past 60 years.

Recently I have also been undertaking training in traditional Japanese Reiki techniques and share these with my students as well.

As an "Independent Reiki Master/Teacher" I do not teach "bits and pieces" of "this and that". Rather each level is well defined and serves as the foundation for the next level of training. Since I have learned more material than can be taught in the standard four level Reiki training format, I offer the core material in these four levels and teach regular seminars and workshops to round out the training. Students are welcome to review material at anytime, as the practice and learning of Reiki is best viewed as an apprenticeship. Of course, people are free to study at whatever level of commitment they desire. See the Reiki Course Descriptions for more information, and feel free to contact me anytime if you have further questions.

Peace and Good Luck to You!!
