Reiki, or as it is more properly, referred to as, 'Usui Reiki Ryoho,' is a simple but highly effective and compassionate healing art from Japan which was developed by the Founder, Master Mikao Usui, in the early 1920's after he underwent a powerful mystical experience and spiritual transformation upon sacred Mt. Kurama.

Reiki was brought to the West in the late 1930's by Rev. Hawayo Takata, to Hawaii, and subsequently spread throughout the mainland U.S.A. and the world at large.  Today Reiki is being increasingly integrated into the mainstream of Western health, healing, and medical modalities due to its safety, ease of use and learning, and practical effectiveness.

*One of the unique and great blessings of 'Usui Reiki Ryoho' is that it can be easily learned by people of all ages and backgrounds, no previous healing or meditative arts experience is necessary.

The following diagram illustrates the focus and breadth of the Reiki system of healing as taught by O-Sensei Usui:

Technically, Master Usui's system is composed of seven main areas of focus and study:

Gokai ~ or the Reiki life principles
Rei Ju ~ otherwise known as the Reiki attunement
Gassho ~ the meditative aspect and attitude of the system
Rei Ki Ko ~ Reiki qigong
Kotodama/Jumon ~ the Reiki 'mantra's'
Shirushi ~ the Reiki 'symbols'
Chiryo ~ Reiki healing methods for self and others

Mike teaches a unique style of 'Usui Reiki Ryoho' which he calls the 'Butterfly Integrated Reiki System.'  This system is based upon his twenty years of experience with Reiki and related arts, studying with many advanced and unusual teachers.  Reiki methods Mike has personally studied and learned include:  Usui Reiki Ryoho, Takata style Reiki, Usui/Tibetan style Reiki, Buddho/Enersense style Reiki, Karuna Reiki, and others.

In addition to these well-known Reiki styles Mike has had the good fortune of learning rare and advanced Reiki and Min Zin healing and meditation methods directly from a highly evolved Burmese Grandmaster, Dr. Maung Gyi.  Dr. Gyi has shared many wonderful methods with Mike, as well as important concepts of Reiki and healing.  Dr. Gyi has directed Mike to share what he has taught him, "with everyone."

Additionally, Mike has had the good fortune to receive teachings, blessings, initiation, and Shaktipat from a number of powerful Spiritual Teachers; and he has twenty plus years of experience with meditation and qigong.

The 'Butterfly Integrated Reiki System' combines the best elements of all of these various arts and methods, while adhering to traditional training philosophies and respect for each individual teacher and tradition.  O-Sensei Usui's own teachings, insights, and wisdom are the primary guiding lights and inspiration for the 'Butterfly Integrative Reiki System.'  The 'Butterfly Integrative Reiki System' is usually taught as four one day workshops ('Shoden', 'Okuden'-part 1, 'Okuden'-part 2, 'Shinpiden'), which are supplemented by continuing education in the form of classes and workshops taught by Mike, Dr. Gyi, and others.  'Reiki Healing Circles' are also offered on a regular basis for the support and enjoyment of all Reiki students.  See the 'Course Descriptions' for more information on these unique classes.
