In the Summer of 2001 I had the good fortune of meeting a very special teacher, Grandmaster, Dr. Maung Gyi.  Dr. Gyi is originally from Burma (now Myanmar) and has over 70 years of experience as a world-level teacher, healer, scholar, and Grandmaster of various Asian yogic and martial arts.  He is most well known as the Founder and Chief Instructor of 'The American Bando Association.'  Dr. Gyi is a beautiful person - kind, compassionate, humble, and a real joy to be around.

Although I met him at a martial arts clinic he was teaching, upon getting to know him it was readily apparent that there was much more to him than his martial skills and knowledge.  Thereupon, after agreeing to visit us and teach at my school,  Dr. Gyi has been visiting us and sharing his vast knowledge and wisdom of traditional Asian healing, meditative, yogic, and spiritual arts.

One of the arts which Dr. Gyi preserves and specializes in is known as, 'Min Zin.'  'Min Zin' is an ancient Burmese healing, meditation, and spiritual system which has been influenced by traditional Tibetan, Indian, and Chinese arts and concepts; as well as, of course, the indigenous Burmese methods and beliefs.  As taught and preserved by Dr. Gyi, 'Min Zin' is a huge comprehensive, multi-layered system.  However, like Usui Reiki Ryoho, the key to healing and achieving balance and harmony through "Min Zin' is the cultivation of virtues such as compassion, kindness, humility, and sincerity.

Knowing our interest in Reiki, qigong, and meditation, Dr. Gyi has been sharing aspects of his 'Min Zin' art with us which enhance and complement these arts; and which also stand on their own merits as highly effective and wonderful meditation and healing methods.

According to the teachings and information Dr. Gyi has shared with me, the three main objectives of 'Min Zin' training are:

1.     To control one's disruptive and destructive emotions
2.     To maintain one's physical well-being and health
3.     To develop one's emotional balance and spiritual tranquility

This is accomplished through the various methods of 'Min Zin', which are composed of six inter-related parts: 1) Prana 2) Mudra 3) Yantra 4) Pranayama 5) Bhanda 6) Dhayana.  Although these are the main areas of 'Min Zin' study, there are other elements, such as the study of 'asana' and 'mantra.'

'Min Zin' makes use of a unique energy generation system, utilizing nine main inter-connected energy centers ('chakra's') in various ways to generate, balance, and transmit energy for healing....personal, earthly, cosmic, and spiritual energy sources are utilized.

The following are some of the 'Min Zin' methods which Dr. Gyi has shared with us, and which I integrate into my Reiki classes and other workshops:

~ The Protection Mudra
~ The Self Sensing Mudra
~ The Light Mudra
~ The Symbol Mudra

~ The Self Healing Mudra
~ The Compassion Mudra
~ The Wholeness Mudra
~ The Preparatory Mudra

~ Energetic Cleansing Mudra's - for self and client

* Note:

'Mudra' refers to various symbolic gestures, postures, or movements for the purpose of healing, meditation, cleansing, balance, harmony, etc......
